Today it is very important for businesses to consider and have all the angles covered with respect to internet and network security and especially in relation to their computer systems. Insurance companies are now expecting a higher level of cyber-security than most companies have in place.

Data Protection

Does your business hold personal data? Do you fall under the UK’s Data Protection Act? What would happen if this information was accessed by staff who should be denied this right? Let us help you set up a system that allows staff to access only the data that they need to do their job and not all the company’s data.

Computer Best Practices

The following checklist is taken and paraphrased from the Information Commissioner’s web site.

  • Do you have a firewall installed and virus-checking on all your computers?
  • Is your operating system set up to receive automatic updates?
  • Do you protect your computer by downloading the latest patches or security updates, which should cover vulnerabilities?
  • Do you only allow your staff access to the information they need to do their job and prevent them from sharing passwords?
  • Do you encrypt any personal information held electronically that would cause damage or distress if it were lost or stolen?
  • Do you take regular back-ups of the information on your computer system and keep them in a separate place so that if you lose your computers, you don’t lose the information?
  • Do you securely remove all personal information before disposing of old computers (by using technology or destroying the hard disk)?

If you have answered no to any of the above, please call us to arrange a free audit of your network and security.
